Springbank Madeira Cask Matured 17 year old single malt Scotch is yet another example of Springbank’s successful dabbling in the more ‘outside of the box’ cask types. Beginning their experimental cask aging in 2009 with their ‘Wood’ series, this latest offering is aged a minimum of 17 years, beginning with a combination of ex-rum and ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in new Madeira hogshead casks for 3 years. Springbank Madeira 17 was released in a run of 9,200 bottles and has a nose full of aromatic hits of ginger, toffee pudding cake, and bright grapefruit rinds over sweet strawberry preserves. The taste is layered in black peppered peat, caramel, ginger, and salted caramel fudge seasoned with fennel and wood smoke.
